Home Learning 6th January
Tuesday 5th January | 4 comments
What a strange start to the new year! It was lovely seeing the children back at school on Monday and getting started with some of our new topics, including our new class text, Dark Sky Park (a book of poems about nature) and our science topic, Evolution.
Straight away, the children impressed me with their imaginative ideas, fantastic questions, the knowledge they already had and, most importantly, their enthusiasm. I am really sad that we will not be able to carry on this learning in the classroom as normal, but I’m looking forward to working with you all while we are at home and I know that you will still be able to learn lots of new things and produce some great work.
Home learning packs and timetable
Thank you to everyone who was able to pick up their home learning pack from school. We will be delivering the remaining packs as soon as possible. Most of the learning for Year 6 will be assigned via our new Year 6 Home Learning Classroom (the code to join is on the letter and was also posted on the 6S and 6J classrooms). Maths work will be completed in the blue workbooks. Sometimes children will be directed to complete a sheet from their pack or to complete pages in the SATs workbooks. Instructions for all tasks will be given on Google Classroom and through regular Google Meets. Mr Harris and Mr Hemming will even be holding assemblies for everyone! Here is the timetable we will be following:
Home learning and Google Meets for the whole of Year 6 will be led by Mrs Sykes and Miss Jones on alternate weeks. On the weeks when we are teaching in school, we will still be available online as much as possible, but it might take us a bit longer to respond. This week, Miss Jones will be delivering the Google Meets and will be available to support children with their learning at home, while Mrs Sykes will be teaching the children who are coming into school.
Work for this week (full details will be posted daily on Google Classroom):
- Maths – Four Quadrants
- English – Writing a poem inspired by ‘Night Walker’
