A busy week in 6S

Friday 4th December | Comments are off for this post

We’re starting to feel festive in 6S with the start of advent, some fairy lights, signing Silent Night (see below) and even a little bit of snow! But that hasn’t stopped us from working as hard as always this week.

We have had some particularly good writing in 6S this week, describing one of the battle scenes in War Horse from Topthorn’s point of view. The children worked really hard to use powerful vocabulary, structure their work clearly and vary their sentence openers. Lots of children are now really getting the hang of how to use semi-colons in their writing, which is very impressive.

Here are just a few examples of our work:

This week we also completed some practice SATs papers. I was really impressed with the children’s efforts and positive attitudes towards these. I will be sharing all the results with the children next week.

In other subjects, we started to find out about the role of aircraft in WW1 and we also completed some PSHE lessons on drug education, finding out what drugs are and discussing some of the effects drugs can have on the body. The children asked some great questions in these lessons and were very sensible.

Finally, we have been busy learning Silent Night in Makaton, which has been quite tricky but the children are doing really well. If you can, try to teach someone at home some of the signs! I’ll put the video on Google Classroom if I can.

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
‘Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth

Special Mentions today went to Isaac, Rebecca and Amelie – well done to all three!

Homework this week is a spelling sheet on words ending in -ious and a maths task on multiplying fractions.

Have a fantastic weekend!
