How Stean Gorge Y6 Residential
Year 6 Residential 2021
The residential runs from 5-9th July 2021, although children will only attend for three days of this: either Mon-Wed or Wed-Fri.
The residential is based at How Stean Gorge near Pateley Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales. We will stay at How Stean Gorge for the duration of the trip. We will have exclusive use of the on-site camping grounds and washrooms at night. The children will sleep in large ’10 man’ tents (there will be 5 in total = 4 for the children and 1 for the staff). During the day, other customers will be on site taking part in outdoor activities and visiting the gorge as a tourist attraction.
Apart from the packed lunch that the children will need to bring on the first day of the residential, all catering is provided by How Stean. The children will use the large dining area to eat.
We will have 3 staff for the group attending Monday-Wednesday. This staffing will be supplemented by members of staff from How Stean who will lead the activities.
What will we be doing?
The exact details of our 3 day package is to be decided but it could look something like this:
There is a campsite in the grounds. Children will sleep in tents (supplied by How Stean). They will have roll mats but will need to bring sleeping bags and pillows. There are shower blocks and toilet facilities. There is a café with a large dining area where the children will be fully catered for.
Note: we will have exclusive use of the activity centre and grounds – we have booked out the whole place for the week.
We will travel by school minibus. Wednesday will be ‘change over’ day – the whole cohort will have lunch together the Mon-Wed group return to school.
What do we need to bring?
Exact kit list to be circulated at a later date but all equipment for the outdoor adventurous activities is supplied by How Stean.
Exact staffing to be confirmed at a later date.
A meeting for parents will be held nearer the time giving full details.
School will prepare the appropriate paperwork for the LA to approve the trip. Documents will include: risk assessments, itinerary, kit list, staffing, emergency contact details etc…
